Review: Waitress

Toronto is in for a treat – and I don’t just mean the pie you can get in the lobby, although that is fabulous and fun.

Waitress is a delight. With music and lyrics by the incredible Sara Bareilles, you know it’s going to be good. Had 2016 not been the year Hamilton also hit broadway, I think Waitress would have walked away with Best Musical.

This show has all the ingredients for a perfect and filling night at the theatre – wonderfully talented cast from the key players to the ensemble; toe-tapping, delightful songs; incredibly relatable characters and their personal stories; pie; and laughs, smiles, and tears. Mix it all together, bake for 2 hours and 15 minutes and you have a delectable, delicious, and engaging musical.

Catch this one while you can, Toronto! Waitress runs until August 18 at the Ed Mirvish Theatre.
